If you haven’t heard of Dalgona Coffee before, it started going viral in South Korea on TikTok. In fact, its name comes from its resemblance to dalgona, a popular Korean sugar sweet. However, other versions of this drink have been enjoyed around the world for a very long time, such as Frappe Coffee in Greece or Beaten Coffee in India. This version is especially yummy because of the addition of spiced mocha flavors.

This recipe is so easy to make at home and only requires a few ingredients. First, make sure you’re using instant coffee. If you don’t have instant coffee, then you’ll still have a delicious spiced mocha. It just won’t create that iconic Dalgona whip and texture.

This recipe also needs sugar to hold its whipped texture. However, most granulated sugar substitutes should work well. Dalgona Coffee is usually served over some sort of milk, but for this version we are making a special chocolatey spiced mocha mixture by combining Willa’s Creamy Oat Milk with cocoa, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and a pinch of cayenne pepper. A small spicy kick always complements chocolate perfectly, and adds an extra layer of complex flavors that shine with the coffee.

This recipe isn’t necessarily meant to substitute for your usual brewed coffee or espresso as there actually is not much caffeine. However, it’s a fun and easy substitute if you’ve been craving something creamy like a cappuccino, but don’t have barista tools at home. Plus, the spiced mocha flavors add an novel spin on this otherwise extraordinarily simple recipe!

Spiced Mocha Dalgona Coffee Ingredients

Dalgona Whip:

1 tbsp instant coffee

1 tbsp sugar (if you’re avoiding refined sugar, you can use coconut or date sugar)

1 tbsp hot water


Cocoa Mixture:

¼ cup hot water

1 tbsp cocoa powder

½ tsp ground cinnamon

¼ tsp ground nutmeg

¼ tsp allspice seasoning

Pinch of ground cayenne pepper

¾ cup Willa’s Creamy Oat Milk or Willa’s Unsweetened Original Oat Milk

Ice


Spiced Mocha Dalgona Coffee Instructions

  1. Prepare dalgona whip by whisking together instant coffee, sugar, and one tablespoon of hot water until light and fluffy.

  2. In a serving glass, combine cocoa powder, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, allspice seasoning, ground cayenne pepper and remaining ¼ cup of hot water. Mix well until combined and smooth.

  3. Add ice and Willa’s Oat Milk to cocoa mixture and top with dalgona whip.
