Oat Milk Sweet Potato Maple Bourbon Latte from Dogwood Coffee
Ever tried incorporating vegetables into a latte? Sounds like a bizarre experiment until you realize you can make a simple syrup out of sweet potatoes! And when you combine those hot mashed sweet potatoes with a bit of maple syrup, a dash of bourbon to mellow things out, and some oat milk to balance the sweetness, you’ll discover the warmest, most delightful melding of flavors.
It’s one of our favorite seasonal menu items at Dogwood Coffee.
Willa’s Oatmilk Sweet Potato Maple Bourbon Latte
40 g espresso
4 oz Willa's Barista Oat Milk
30 g Sweet potato maple bourbon syrup (recipe below)
Sprinkle of nutmeg
Combine espresso and syrup.
Gently steam Willa's Barista Oat Milk.
Pour it into the espresso-sweet potato maple bourbon syrup mixture.
Using a microplane, grate nutmeg on top and enjoy!
Sweet Potato Maple Bourbon Simple Syrup Recipe:
1 medium-sized (about 8 ounces) local, organic sweet potato
1 cup water
½ cup maple syrup
1 tablespoon bourbon
Roast sweet potato in the oven at 375° until soft (30–45 minutes).
Scoop out ½ cup of potato (go ahead and snack on the rest).
Place in a saucepan with water and sugar.
Cook over medium-low heat for 10 minutes, stirring until sugar dissolves and syrup forms.
Let syrup cool.
Puree and then strain through a fine-mesh strainer.
