The Benefits of Cooking With Oat Milk

Oat milk is known for its popularity in coffee drinks, but its benefits in cooking and baking are often overlooked. Cooking with oat milk is an easy way to add protein and minimal sugar to recipes. With soluble fiber, beta glucans to promote good cholesterol and lower your risk of cancer, oat milk is not only a sustainable and delicious addition to your recipes, but an overall health-promoting one.

Another reason people are turning to oat milk rather than other plant-based milks is its similarity to traditional milk. Oat milk has a thick, creamy flavor, without any of the dangers of dairy.

While whole milk can add more than 10 grams of sugar, our Unsweetened Original Oat Milk contains only 1 gram of sugar per serving— the necessary amount to create a great product.

And when you take a sip of Willa’s oat milk, you’ll notice its subtly sweet flavor profile. Willa’s contains far less sugar than other brands in the market, which can pack in sugar amounts close to that of traditional milk. Americans already consume too much sugar, which can wreak havoc on energy levels, skin health and contribute to the onset of type two diabetes. While other oat milks pack in added sugars, we know our customers value integrity so we use whole grain oats to make the most natural oat milk possible, with honest ingredients that you can actually pronounce.

Tips for cooking with oat milk

Oat milk is not only a powerful substitute for dairy in baking. Oat milk can also be substituted for milk in cooking recipes. Recently, I tried making mac and cheese, and substituted milk for Willa’s– a swap that I will be making from here on out. Oat milk can also be added to mashed potatoes, pastas and other savory dishes. This might sound strange since we like to boast about the nutty, slightly sweet profile in our organic oat milk. But rest assured, Willa’s contains less sugar than other milks, and if you find the flavor profile of your dish to be too sweet– a dash of salt will do the trick in balancing the dish.
