Frosts one cake

Is there anything that sparks joy the way chocolate frosting does? Not in our minds. Even those who aren’t as into cake, love this recipe and can’t get enough of it. We love it on our vanilla cake cupcakes, but it would be excellent on chocolate and really any cake as well. Got a vegan or dairy free friend with something worth celebrating coming up? Well, what better way to celebrate them than with a deliciously chocolatey and fluffy dairy free buttercream frosted cake?

Make it semi-dairy free (with butter), dairy free or vegan.

When you’re dairy free, lactose intolerant, vegan or all three, buttercream sounds completely off limits. But the truth is, we’ve found you can make even better buttercream without the dairy. It’s delicious, not too sweet, and easy to pipe and just as fluffy and decadent tasting without the dairy.

Some of us who are lactose intolerant can still have butter with no problem, and enjoy it from time to time, especially on special occasions. This recipe comes out great with vegan butter, but we love it best with a high quality, organic stick of the real thing. If you prefer not to support the dairy industry, we hear you and support your decision. In our minds, the best part is that these days we have all kinds of options so do what is best for you!

On that note, our cousin Ciara makes this recipe with cream cheese added to it. She’s lucky in that she’s not nearly as lactose intolerant as we are.

Sounds hard, but it’s so easy to make.

Buttercream frosting also sounds rather challenging to those who haven’t tried it. It’s the stuff wedding cakes are made of so it must be difficult, right? The truth is it’s not hard to make at all. With just two steps and a short list of real ingredients, it’s simple to whip this delicious dairy free frosting up. Even a novice baker can master this recipe.

Real ingredients will taste better.

At Willa’s, we are all about honest ingredients and we found the combination of real cocoa powder and real vanilla extract provides the flavors you’re looking for in a truly delicious cupcake. We never use artificial flavorings. The real stuff tastes better, it’s made with better ingredients and in our minds it is absolutely worth the price. Why use anything else? That’s why we use real vanilla extract in our oat milk as well.

Trust us. Oat Milk in frosting is delicious.

Now you might be saying, oat milk in frosting? Does that even work? Willa’s Oat Milk works beautifully in vegan and dairy free cooking and baking recipes. We’ve tried it in everything from pumpkin pies to chocolate pudding to cake and various frosting recipes. It works as an excellent dairy replacement and substitute for just about any non-dairy recipe.
