Oat Nog (Dairy-Free Eggnog)
Eggnog is one of the most classic, nostalgic holiday beverages. The traditional recipe is made with eggs and heavy cream, so we created a vegan version with Willa’s Oat Milk! While still super rich and creamy, the eggless, dairy-free version feels much lighter and adds a delicious nuttiness to the drink.
Where did eggnog come from?
From Time, “most agree eggnog originated from the early medieval Britain “posset,” a hot, milky, ale-like drink. By the 13th century, monks were known to drink a posset with eggs and figs… eggnog was often used in toasts to prosperity and good health.” We’ll cheers to that!
The drink was popularized in North America in the 1700s when farm products like eggs and dairy, were inexpensive and easily accessible. From there, it became a holiday staple for Christmas celebrations
Rich and indulgent… even without dairy!
We all know eggnog as an incredibly thick and decadent drink - which can sometimes be overpowering. When made with Willa’s Oat Milk instead, this Oat Nog has a much lighter feel while still being super creamy. Because of our unique whole oat approach, Willa’s Oat Milk has an especially rich texture and taste, making it the best dairy substitute!
Make it alcohol-free!
Eggnog tastes great served with or without alcohol, so this recipe is suitable for all ages and lifestyles. Simply leave out the bourbon for a comforting wintery drink that’s alcohol-free.
Super tasty served hot or cold!
Eggnog is traditionally served cold after chilling for a few hours. Chilling the drink allows it to thicken up and have that beautiful rich texture we know and love. However, if you want something a little more cozy, warm your Oat Nog up in a saucepan or simply serve it immediately after making it!
Because it’s typically served cold, this recipe is great to make ahead and store in the fridge before your holiday gatherings.
Fancy it up with a garnish or two
To make it feel extra festive, we recommend garnishing your Oat Nog! We added a cinnamon sugar rim with maple syrup, a sprinkle of nutmeg, and a pretty little cinnamon stick on top for the full effect.
