Is Organic Oat Milk Better For You?
At Willa’s, we believe in using ingredients that support human health, as well as soil health. Willa's does not have glyphosate and we use Certified Organic oats.
We don't want to just aim to do no harm, but actively support the healthy of people and ecosystems. How ingredients are grown and produced has an enormous impact. Conventional oats are amongst the heaviest sprayed crops, which makes it even more critical we use oats that are certified organic.
What does organic mean?
Being organic means that our ingredients are raised without the use of GMOs and synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, or pesticides. In organic agriculture, farmers grow their produce with natural methods and fertilizers that do not involve spreading harmful chemicals at any point during the plant’s life cycle. When herbicides and pesticides are utilized in organic farming as opposed to natural methods like insect and bird pest control, the products used are also certified organic and proven to not expose plants to any unnatural chemicals.
Organic foods and your health
Eating organic products over traditionally raised products can have a huge impact on your health. When eating non-organic, the chemical residues from the herbicides and pesticides used in the farming process remain in your food, subjecting your body to unnatural elements. Additionally, organic foods are often fresher at the point of purchase because of the avoidance of preservatives, giving the food a shorter time span to get from the farm to your kitchen.
Glyphosphate in oat milk
Many of the most popular oat milks on the market contain glyphosate, the active ingredient in the chemical-heavy herbicide, RoundUp. Science researchers have found that exposure to glyphosate can have serious health effects on humans like an increased cancer risk, celiac disease, accelerated endocrine-disruption, and more.
Willa's oats are organic, confirms they are not grown with any pesticides, including glyphosate. With all of this, we at Willa’s test our ingredients and products thoroughly to ensure there is no trace of glyphosate or other harmful chemicals in the production of our oat milk.
Organic agriculture and the environment
Non-organic agricultural methods including those that use glyphosate can also have a statistically worse impact on the environment. With health and environmental sustainability at the top of our priority list, we take farming practices and their effect on the planet seriously. The heavy use of chemical fertilizers and herbicides in traditional farming is harmful to soil quality, which is at the core of plant and wildlife ecological health. Synthetic chemicals like these are a large cause of pollution in our lakes and rivers due to farming runoff, which harms the biodiversity of aquatic life and overall water quality and safety.
Willa's commitment to people and the planet.
At Willa’s, we commit to always aiming to making oat milk with only the best and most responsible methods. We prioritize the transparency of our ingredients so you and your family can feel good drinking and serving Willa’s at your table.
